Our Quarterly Report for the second term of 2009 is now available on our downloads page.
Term 3 has begun with 3 quick days of recruiting on campus – the last one being tomorrow (Wednesday). Volunteers from last semester can either visit our stall on Campus (Plaza if the weather is good, otherwise Molly Blackburn) or they choose sessions from our Vula site. Just log on to Vula, select the Ubunye site, click “Section Info” on the left, and select whichever tutorial suits you best. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact info [at] teachout [dot] co [dot] za.
Volunteer Training for new volunteers will be in Humanities LT3 on Saturday 1 August, from 09h50 until 12h00. This will make sure that everyone is ready for sessions begining next week.
Applications for the 2009/2010 committee have also openned. Applications for the director are on 20 August, and other committee positions on 23 August. Email applications [at] teachout [dot] co [dot] za for more details.
The TeachOut committee is excited for our last term in office, and hope it will be our best one.

The 2009 TeachOut committee is rather pleased with our first term of operations. TeachOut started with a bang this year, running most sessions from the first week.. Despite scrupulous planning, the first term was not without its problems. The greatest of these was the decided lack of cash…we are, however, pleased to inform you that this problem has been partly solved – we are still looking for money to finance the fourth term of operations.
During the first term TeachOut had 58 tutoring sessions and only 4 sessions were cancelled. We currently have 96 active volunteers that are tutoring approximately 300 pupils within the three schools we operate – the help is greatly appreciated. Members of the TeachOut Committee are carrying out their jobs excellently and are excited and motivated to continue our successes into the second term.
We are beginning our sessions this week starting in Intsebenziswano and Zisukhanyo on Monday, and Sophumelela on Wednesday. The committee is excited to get this year started and we look forward to making a huge impact.
We held our training day last week Saturday (21/02) and it was a great success. Just under a hundred volunteers were signed up for sessions during the week, with even more signups slowly coming in over the week. We currently have 103 volunteers registered for sessions.
Some of our weekday sessions, especially the Physical Science and Maths sessions, could have a greater impact with more volunteers. So if you’re free during the afternoon from 14h00 to 16h30 send us an email at info [at] teachout [dot] co [dot] za and we’ll sign you up.
Our stall on Jammie Plaza during orientation was a huge success. We signed up over 150 volunteers, putting us in an excellent position for the start of the year.
Our volunteer training day will be happening this Saturday (21/2) at 11h00 on UCT’s upper campus. The exact venue will be announced in the next few days.
